Yoda Wins World's Ugliest Dog Title
YODA'S short tufts of hair, protruding tongue, and long, seemingly hairless legs were enough to earn it the World's Ugliest Dog title at a Northern California fair. The 14-year-old Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix won the honor at the 23rd
annual contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair.
Owner Terry Schumacher of Hanford, California,, said the dog had come a long way since she was found abandoned behind an apartment building.
Ms Schumacher said she first thought the pooch was a rat.
Yoda's distinction comes a year after a one-eyed Chihuahua named Princess Abby claimed victory.
A pedigree Chinese crested won in 2008 and another Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix was the ugliest in 2007.
In past years, the winner's owner has received a $1000 cheque.

The man accelerated past 100 mph and then an old man on a moped passed him up like he was standing still. The man in the sports car was amazed at the feat and accelerated so quickly he passed the old man on his moped like he was standing still too. Pope denounces Nigeria church blast as 'Absurd'
Pope Benedict XVI has denounced the bombing of a Nigerian Catholic church that killed 35 people on Christmas Day, saying only respect and reconciliation can bring peace — not violence.
Speaking at his post-Christmas blessing Monday, Benedict said he had learned with "profound sadness" of the "absurd" attack on the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madalla, which was claimed by the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram.
It was the second year in a row that the group has staged Christmas attacks.
Benedict invited everyone to pray for the victims and Nigeria's Christian community.
He said: "In this moment, I want to repeat once again with force: violence is a path that leads only to pain, destruction and death. Respect, reconciliation and love are the only path to peace."

Creme brulee also known as burnt cream, crema catalana, or Trinity cream is a dessert consisting of a rich custard base topped with a contrasting layer of hard caramel. It is normally served cold. To prepare this wonderful dessert, you'll need a shallow ovenproof dish (to make one large crème brûlée) or four brûlée dishes or large ramekins (for individual brulees). NASA's Next Mars Rover to Land at Gale Crater
NASA's next Mars rover will land at the foot of a layered mountain inside the planet's Gale crater.
The car-sized Mars Science Laboratory, or Curiosity, is scheduled to launch late this year and land in August 2012.
The target crater spans 96 miles (154 kilometers) in diameter and holds a mountain rising higher from the crater floor than Mount Rainier rises above Seattle. Gale is about the combined area of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Layering in the mound suggests it is the surviving remnant of an extensive sequence of deposits. The crater is named for Australian astronomer Walter F. Gale.

A PERVERT hid in the waste tank of a portaloo at a US yoga festival to spy on women as they sat on the lavatory, police say.
Luke Chrisco, 30, was arrested in the Colorado town of Vail, west of Boulder, after he was discovered and fled the scene covered in human waste, authorities said.
Police said the event happened at the Hanuman Yoga Festival on June 17 when a woman noticed movement inside the storage tank and asked a male bystander to investigate.
The man told police he saw someone inside the tank covered in a tarpaulin. A security guard waited outside the toilet for 10 minutes until a shirtless, barefoot man with numerous cuts on his back and legs emerged covered in excrement.
The man fled across the festival grounds but was later arrested when police, investigating an unrelated complaint, stopped his vehicle and realised he resembled the suspect accused of hiding in a toilet at the festival last week.

She looked like the picture perfect pop star, but Japanese singing sensation Aimi Eguchi wasn't even real. The young starlet was a hoax - she was computer generated from composite pictures of six of the most attractive members of the band AKB48. Fans who followed the supposedly 16-year-old star in the Japanese girl group have been left shocked. The video, below, shows how graphics experts studied the features of six of the most attractive group members who initially performed in the candy advert and took images of each girl's eyes, nose, mouth, hair and body, face outline and eyebrows and digitally merged them to create the 'perfect' group member.
